The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has dismantled a major drug distribution network in Lagos following coordinated raids on multiple warehouses concealed within a residential estate, seizing narcotics valued at approximately N16.9 billion.

April 29, 2026 — The operation led to the recovery of about 2.36 million tablets of high-strength tramadol and over 1.9 million bottles of codeine syrup hidden across three warehouses in the Okota axis of Lagos.

The facilities were reportedly embedded within residential structures, reflecting the increasing sophistication of drug trafficking operations in urban Nigeria.

According to NDLEA officials, the raid was intelligence-driven and executed on April 17, 2026, targeting coordinated storage points used by a suspected trafficking syndicate.

The agency described the seizure as one of its largest recent breakthroughs against opioid distribution networks.

Security analysts note that the scale of the recovery underscores the growing challenge of synthetic opioid abuse and trafficking in West Africa, where criminal networks increasingly exploit commercial and residential spaces for concealment.

The NDLEA has vowed continued operations aimed at dismantling drug cartels and cutting off supply chains feeding illicit consumption across Nigeria, while investigations into the ownership and logistics of the warehouses remain ongoing.
