The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a consignment of tramadol pills concealed inside containers of black soap in an attempt to smuggle the illicit drugs to the United Kingdom.
The seizure was announced on Sunday, July 26, 2026, by the Agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, in a narco-trend update shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account. According to the NDLEA, the illicit consignment was uncovered during a routine interdiction operation by its operatives in Lagos, preventing the drugs from being exported overseas.
Babafemi said the traffickers attempted to disguise the tramadol by burying the pills inside locally packaged black soap containers, a concealment method designed to evade security screening.
However, vigilant NDLEA officers detected the hidden drugs before they could leave the country. He did not disclose the quantity of tramadol recovered or whether any suspects had been arrested in connection with the failed shipment.
Reacting to the seizure, the NDLEA spokesman reiterated the agency’s warning to Nigerians against accepting parcels or luggage from other people without verifying their contents.
He stressed that drug trafficking syndicates increasingly exploit unsuspecting individuals to transport illicit substances across international borders.
The latest interception underscores the NDLEA’s sustained crackdown on transnational drug trafficking networks using Nigerian airports and logistics channels.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening surveillance, disrupting trafficking routes and ensuring that illicit drugs do not leave or enter the country through concealed shipments.
