The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has disowned Mr. Okey Ezeala, declaring that he is not the party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary and does not hold any position within its national leadership.
The clarification was contained in a public disclaimer issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director Esq., following what it described as repeated instances of Ezeala presenting himself as a national officer of the NDC.
According to the party, Ezeala was neither elected nor appointed as Deputy National Publicity Secretary and is not a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) or the National Working Committee (NWC).
The NDC said it issued the disclaimer after receiving complaints from members across different states over Ezeala’s alleged activities and representations.
The party alleged that Ezeala had been introducing himself as a senior party official and acting in ways capable of misleading members, supporters and other political stakeholders.
In the statement, the NDC accused him of impersonation and warned that anyone dealing with him on matters relating to the party would be doing so at their own risk.
It further alleged that some members reported being approached by Ezeala with promises of securing party tickets and political appointments in exchange for financial payments, despite lacking the authority to make such commitments.
The party also accused him of attempting to organise what it described as an unlawful congress in Abia State, which allegedly resulted in the emergence of a parallel executive structure not recognised by the NDC.
“Mr. Okey Ezeala is not elected or appointed by any organ of our great party as Deputy National Publicity Secretary or into our NWC or NEC as a member,” the statement said.
The NDC stressed that only duly elected and constitutionally recognised officials are authorised to speak or act on behalf of the party.
It advised members to verify the identity and status of individuals claiming to represent the party before engaging in any political or financial transactions.
The party added that Ezeala has no authority to convene meetings, issue directives, collect funds, negotiate political arrangements or represent the NDC in any official capacity.
It also stated that no organ of the party had mandated him to act on its behalf, urging members to disregard any documents, statements or commitments issued by him in the party’s name.
The NDC called on anyone who may have been affected by Ezeala’s alleged activities to submit formal complaints to the office of the National Secretary for investigation and appropriate action.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to internal discipline, constitutional order and the protection of its structures ahead of future political activities, warning against the creation of parallel leadership by individuals pursuing personal interests.
