The Federal High Court in Akure, Ondo State, has adjourned the dispute over the controversial election of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Okitipupa Branch, to December 3, 2026, for hearing.
The case returned to the court on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, with the plaintiffs filing a fresh application seeking to amend their originating processes to bring the current NBA President, Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, properly before the court in place of her predecessor.
The suit challenges the legality of the processes leading to the purported election of the Okitipupa Branch leadership, alleging that the procedures disregarded decisions reached at the branch’s General Meeting and provisions of the NBA’s governing laws.
The plaintiffs contend that the emergence of the branch leadership must comply with the association’s established legal and constitutional framework.
They maintained that the supremacy of the General Meeting, internal democracy and constitutional governance must be upheld in the conduct of the association’s affairs.
According to the plaintiffs, no leadership can legitimately emerge from an electoral process conducted in violation of the NBA’s governing laws.
The fresh application seeks to ensure that the current NBA president is properly joined in the proceedings as the case continues.
Following the proceedings on Wednesday, the Federal High Court adjourned the matter until December 3, 2026, for hearing.
The development was disclosed in a statement by Tope Temokun, Esq., lead counsel to the plaintiffs, dated October 14, 2026.
