My Father Maduro Is Sharing Crowded Cell With rapper 6ix9ine, 17 Other Inmates – Son Lament

Former Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro is reportedly being held in a crowded New York prison cell with 18 other inmates including American rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine, according to his son, Guerra Nicolás Maduro.

In an interview with German magazine Der Spiegel Friday, Maduro Guerra claimed that American rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine was at one point among the inmates sharing the same communal cell with his father.

The rapper, known for his rainbow-colored hair and repeated probation violations, recently completed a three-month sentence at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.

Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were arrested by U.S. forces in Caracas in January 2026 and transferred to New York, where they are facing narco-terrorism and drug trafficking charges. U.S. prosecutors accuse Maduro of using his government position to facilitate large-scale cocaine shipments into the United States. Both have denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty.

Maduro Guerra described the case against his father as politically motivated, insisting that his family has “nothing to do with drugs or terrorists.” He also argued that Venezuela remains politically independent despite growing international pressure.

According to the interview, Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez is currently overseeing the country’s affairs while Maduro remains in detention.

Maduro Guerra said Venezuela continues to follow a socialist model but has been forced to make certain concessions amid economic and political realities.

Reports about Maduro’s prison conditions have drawn international attention in recent weeks, especially after Tekashi 6ix9ine publicly claimed the former Venezuelan leader signed a SpongeBob toy for him while they were both being held at the Brooklyn detention center.
