You heard me right. I did not make a mistake in using this headline. It is neither hyperbole nor a political statement. Former Governor Olusegun Mimiko is the first anointed Governor of Ondo State, the first to be anointed by God to rule Ondo State as Governor.
This is too deep for a carnal mind to understand. Do not get me wrong: God indeed rules in the affairs of men. I do not mean that God was unaware of the enthronement of Mimiko’s predecessors and successors. The truth is that there are different ways a man is enthroned to rule his people.

To become anything on earth is a gift from God. As the Scriptures say, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above.” In this sinful world, prayer is key. Some people rise to prominence because of the prayers of their parents, wives or pastors. Some desire greatness, pray towards it, and God grants their prayers. Others may not even pray, but because greatness burns in their hearts, God grants their wishes.
Whatever anyone becomes in life is, therefore, by the grace of God Almighty. But Mimiko’s case is different. His story is like that of Biblical David, who was chosen by God to rule Israel. Mimiko is a special Governor of Ondo State. Since the return of democracy in 1999, he is the only man whom God intentionally chose and anointed to rule Ondo State as Governor.
That was why everything worked together for his enthronement. He unseated a sitting Governor who was widely accepted and whose popularity had soared. He entered the race and began his campaign only three months before the election, using an unknown and unpopular political party at the time—the Labour Party and emerged victorious.
He also became the first Governor to win and complete a second term in Ondo State. This was not because of juju or political structures, but because the oil and the crown to rule Ondo State at an appointed time were already upon his head.
God has been gracious to some of us to know and see deep and secret things. So, do not bother to ask me or call to know how I arrived at this conclusion. It is the grace of God through the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of God, the Spirit of truth and revelation.
It may interest you to know that God has also ordained Aiyedatiwa’s successor, I mean the person who will succeed him and rule Ondo State after his tenure. He will be the second person in the history of Ondo State whom God has intentionally anointed as Governor to rule the Sunshine State.
However, he will only succeed Aiyedatiwa after his tenure. If he enters too early, before his time, he will not succeed, even if the entire electorate of Ondo State queues behind him. Because he was anointed and pronounced by God as the next Governor of Ondo State to succeed Aiyedatiwa. He wasn’t chosen to compete with him nor unseat him.
God still acknowledges that Aiyedatiwa is in charge. So, the next Governor is coming after Aiyedatiwa’s tenure. His anointed successor will be swimming against the rock and fail woefully if he tries to unseat or compete with him as rival.
Before you call me a fake prophet, I pray that God will permit me to mention the name of Aiyedatiwa’s successor to the people of Ondo State one day, even before the next Ondo State governorship election; because I am sure of what God has told me about the Alagbaka seat.
So, pardon my digression. It is not too late to celebrate Mimiko at 72, a man of grace, wisdom and enduring influence. I was privileged to meet him once during our struggle as convener and coordinator of the Bring Back Our Light (BBOL) group.
I write to say Happy 72nd birthday to a man whom I believe God chose, anointed and enthroned to lead Ondo State at an appointed time.
