Lionel Messi reached another career milestone on Sunday night, scoring his 930th goal as Inter Miami were held to a 2-2 draw by San Diego FC in Major League Soccer.
San Diego opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Anders Dreyer collected a through pass from Jeppe Tverskov and chipped the ball over Miami goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair.
Messi equalised 12 minutes later after being fouled just outside the penalty area. The Argentine forward curled a left-footed free-kick around the defensive wall, with the ball hitting the post before crossing the line beyond goalkeeper CJ dos Santos.
The strike was Messi’s 20th MLS goal of the 2026 season and his 75th career goal from a free-kick.
Football transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on X that the goal also took Messi’s tally for Inter Miami to 101, just four days after he reached the century mark in the club’s Campeones Cup win over Cruz Azul.
Inter Miami moved in front in the 74th minute when Luis Suárez scored to make it 2-1.
But San Diego responded eight minutes later, with Dreyer finding the net again in the 82nd minute to complete his brace and secure a share of the points.
The result marked Miami’s fourth consecutive draw in the MLS.
The club’s record now stands at 12 wins, four defeats and 10 draws, leaving it with 46 points.
