Manchester City boosted their Premier League title charge with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over leaders Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium, cutting the gap at the top to just three points with a game in hand.
In a pulsating encounter, Rayan Cherki opened the scoring in the 16th minute with a dazzling solo effort, weaving past defenders before calmly finishing. However, City’s lead lasted barely two minutes as Kai Havertz capitalised on hesitation from goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to bundle home a quick equaliser.
The decisive moment came midway through the second half when Erling Haaland struck from close range, finishing clinically after sustained pressure to restore City’s advantage.
Both sides created chances in an intense, end-to-end contest. Haaland and Arsenal’s Eberechi Eze each hit the woodwork, while Donnarumma produced key saves to deny Havertz. Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhães also saw a header deflected onto the post as the visitors pushed for a late equaliser.
City, managed by Pep Guardiola, showed resilience after their early setback, blending attacking flair with defensive grit to secure a crucial win. Midfielder Bernardo Silva delivered a standout performance, earning widespread praise for his influence at both ends of the pitch.
For Arsenal and manager Mikel Arteta, the defeat will sting. The Gunners matched City for long spells and created enough chances to take something from the game, but missed opportunities most notably a late header from Havertz proved costly.
The result sets up a tense finish to the Premier League season. City now have momentum firmly on their side, while Arsenal face mounting pressure to hold onto top spot in the final weeks of the campaign.
City next travel to Burnley, while Arsenal will look to respond when they host Newcastle United in their upcoming fixture.
