A commercial tricycle union ticket distributor has been allegedly stabbed to death following a dispute over a ₦300 daily union levy in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday evening at Angwan Kassa Junction, threw the area into panic as residents and commuters fled for safety.
It was gathered that the deceased had stopped a commercial tricycle operator for allegedly operating without the mandatory daily union ticket. The ticket distributor reportedly insisted that the rider purchase the pass before proceeding with his journey.
According to eyewitnesses, the rider abandoned his tricycle and later returned with a group of suspected thugs. The confrontation subsequently turned violent, during which the ticket distributor was allegedly stabbed.
The victim was said to have died from injuries sustained in the attack before help could reach him.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Taraba State Police Command, ASP Victor Mshelizah, said two suspects had been arrested in connection with the killing.
Mshelizah disclosed that the suspects were currently being interrogated, adding that they would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The police spokesperson assured residents that a thorough investigation was underway to ensure that everyone involved in the killing is brought to justice.
