The Imo State Police Command has arrested a man accused of allegedly killing his wife and abandoning her body within the premises of a church in Owaelu, Owerri North Local Government Area of the state.

The command said the victim’s body was discovered last Thursday after the suspect allegedly fled the community with two of their children, leaving behind a suckling baby.
The abandoned infant was later rescued and handed over to a trusted family member for care.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Henry Okoye, said the suspect was tracked down and arrested in Ebonyi State during a joint operation involving operatives of the Imo State Police Command and their counterparts in the neighbouring state.

Okoye said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death were ongoing, adding that the suspect would be charged to court after the conclusion of the investigation.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring justice for the deceased and urged residents to continue supporting the police with credible information that would aid efforts to tackle crime across the state.

The police spokesperson assured members of the public that no effort would be spared in ensuring that anyone found culpable in the incident faces the full weight of the law.
