Man City Reach Agreement to Sign Palace Captain Guehi

Manchester City have reached an agreement in principle with Crystal Palace to sign their captain, Marc Guehi, in a deal valued at £20 million during the January transfer window.

City moved swiftly for the England international after defensive injuries to Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias left the Premier League champions short of options at the back. The 25-year-old centre-back, who is in the final months of his contract at Crystal Palace, had attracted interest from several top European clubs and was close to joining Liverpool last summer.

Negotiations between City and Palace gathered pace in recent days following initial talks earlier this month. The defender is now expected to complete a move to the Etihad Stadium on a long-term deal before the window closes, with personal terms believed to be straightforward and unlikely to delay the transfer.

The move comes shortly after Manchester City secured the signing of Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo for £62.5 million, further strengthening their squad midway through the season.

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has confirmed he will step down at the end of the campaign. He insisted that Guehi’s impending transfer had no influence on his decision, explaining that plans to leave the club were made months earlier.
