The Lagos State Government has announced the temporary closure of the Iddo Bridge in the Ijora area of Apapa Local Government Area to allow for the installation of heavy steel beams as part of ongoing rehabilitation works.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, explaining that the Federal Ministry of Works would carry out the installation during designated periods to ensure the safe reconstruction of the bridge.
According to the statement, the bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., and again on Sunday, June 21, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Osiyemi said the temporary shutdown became necessary to guarantee public safety during the installation process.
Motorists travelling from Oyingbo and Yaba towards Ijora Olopa, Apapa and Costain have been advised to use Funsho Williams Avenue, while those heading from Marina to Ijora Olopa, Apapa and Costain should access Iddo-Onigbe and continue through Murtala Muhammed Way.
Similarly, road users moving from Ijora Olopa and Apapa towards Carter Bridge and Marina are advised to connect through Apapa Road and Eko Bridge before proceeding via Murtala Muhammed Way and Iddo-Onigbe.
The state government appealed to motorists and commuters to remain patient and cooperate with traffic management officials during the temporary closure.
It added that the diversion plan forms part of broader traffic management measures aimed at supporting the ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction of the critical bridge infrastructure.
