The Kwara State Commissioner for Health, Dr Aminat Ahmed El-Imam, has described the state as one of the most conducive environments in Nigeria for childbirth and raising children, attributing the progress to sweeping reforms in the health sector under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
Speaking on recent developments, Dr El-Imam noted that while the governor may not be overtly vocal, his administration has delivered tangible and far-reaching results. She remarked that “he has converted seven years into a lifetime in the health sector in Kwara,” underscoring the depth of transformation witnessed across the state.
She explained that the healthcare system has undergone a significant turnaround, particularly in funding, infrastructure, and institutional credibility. According to her, some international partners, including UNICEF, had previously withdrawn support due to issues such as inadequate counterpart funding. However, she said confidence has now been restored, with these organisations returning as Kwara regains its footing and earns recognition among better-performing states in healthcare delivery.
Dr El-Imam emphasised that healthcare development is an ongoing process worldwide, with universal health coverage still a goal many regions continue to pursue. Despite this, she maintained that Kwara has recorded notable progress, especially in maternal and child health services, as well as in broader system strengthening.
She described Governor AbdulRazaq as a calm and results-oriented leader who prioritises measurable impact over rhetoric, noting that this approach has played a key role in repositioning the state’s health sector.
Overall, she said the transformation reflects steady progress, renewed partnerships, and improved service delivery — factors that increasingly make Kwara a safer and more supportive place for childbirth and child development.
