A senior non-commissioned officer (SNCO) at the Kuje Medium Security Custodial Centre, Abuja, has died after allegedly firing at his commanding officer.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 9:37am on Monday, September 7, while personnel were on duty at the facility.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the officer allegedly fired at the commander but missed after the commander moved away.
The SNCO was later found with what was reported as a self-inflicted gunshot wound and subsequently died.
Makama said the circumstances surrounding the incident remained unclear, adding that an investigation had been launched to determine what led to the shooting.
The officer’s remains were evacuated to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH) for further action.
