The body of former House of Representatives member and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Abba Anas Adamu, has reportedly been released to his family by kidnappers following the payment of ransom.
Anas was abducted alongside another Jigawa politician, Ali Tukur Gantsa, while travelling from Kano to Abuja to attend an ADC congress.
According to sources familiar with the incident, the kidnappers initially demanded N200 million before negotiations allegedly reduced the amount. Reports indicate that the abductors eventually collected N50 million, released Gantsa alive, and handed over Anas’s body to his family.
Family sources reportedly disclosed that the late politician suffered from asthma and hypertension and had been without his medications for several days while in captivity, a situation said to have worsened his health condition.
It was further gathered that stress and fear during the period of abduction may have contributed to the deterioration of his health, leading to his death before the ransom process was concluded.
The development has reportedly thrown political associates, supporters, and members of the ADC in Jigawa State into mourning, with many describing Anas as a humble and compassionate politician who was widely respected within the party.
His remains were said to be on their way to Kano, where burial arrangements are expected to take place.
