Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has approved a landmark scholarship scheme benefiting 1,700 high‑performing students from across the state, a move aimed at expanding access to tertiary education and strengthening human capital development in northern Nigeria’s Katsina State. The approval came at the 5th Regular Meeting of the State Executive Council, held in Katsina on 5 March 2026, where key educational and governance decisions were taken.
Under the programme, the top 50 students from each of the state’s 34 local government areas who excelled in the WAEC and NECO examinations will receive full sponsorship to pursue degrees in fields including Engineering, Nursing, ICT, Agricultural Sciences, and Education at state‑owned universities, polytechnics and colleges.
Council officials said the initiative is designed to create a pipeline of skilled graduates capable of contributing to the state’s socio‑economic growth, while also alleviating financial barriers that often limit access to higher education for talented but economically disadvantaged youths.
The programme forms part of Governor Radda’s broader “Building Your Future” agenda, which emphasises investments in education, teacher welfare, infrastructure and digital transformation as key pillars of inclusive development in Katsina.
This scholarship drive complements other recent government efforts to support human capital, including multi‑billion‑naira bursary schemes and educational infrastructure upgrades.
