Joan Laporta has been re-elected as president of FC Barcelona, securing over 68% of the vote and pledging to make the club “unstoppable” during his new five-year term.
This marks Laporta’s second consecutive term and fourth overall as the La Liga club’s president, beginning 1 July 2026.
Laporta’s opponent, Victor Font, garnered nearly 30% of the votes, with the remainder declared void or invalid.
A total of 48,500 members participated in the election, representing a turnout of 42.34%. Laporta received 32,934 votes, while Font secured 14,385.
Stepping down last month in line with club statutes to seek re-election, the 63-year-old veteran administrator described his victory as “resounding,” adding:
“It gives us great strength. It makes us unstoppable. No one will stop us. Exciting years lie ahead. They will be the best of our lives.”
Laporta, who previously led Barcelona from 2003 to 2010 and oversaw the historic appointment of Pep Guardiola as manager, thanked club members for participating in what he described as “a celebration of democracy and civic spirit.”
In his victory speech, Laporta promised to: Strengthen the first team, complete the redevelopment of the Nou Camp stadium, and defend Barcelona “against everything and everyone”
The Catalan club has faced significant financial challenges in recent years but achieved a domestic treble last season.
Currently, Barcelona leads arch-rivals Real Madrid by four points at the top of La Liga, highlighted by Raphinha’s hat-trick in a 5-2 victory over Sevilla on Sunday.
Barcelona will next face Newcastle United in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Wednesday, following a 1-1 draw at St James’ Park, secured by a 96th-minute penalty from young star Lamine Yamal.
Laporta’s re-election signals continuity and ambition, as the club looks to balance competitive success with financial stability in the coming years.
