JAMB To Establish UTME Centre In Canada From 2027

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced plans to establish a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) centre in Ottawa, Canada, from 2027.

The proposed centre will enable eligible Nigerians living in Canada and other parts of North America to take the UTME without travelling to Nigeria solely for the examination.

JAMB disclosed the plan following a visit by its Registrar, Prof. Segun Aina, to the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa.

According to the board, the initiative is aimed at improving access to the UTME for Nigerians in the diaspora, particularly those seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.

JAMB said the Ottawa centre was part of its efforts to take Nigerian tertiary education to the global community while strengthening the connection between Nigerians abroad and the country’s education system.

“The proposed centre will make it easier for Nigerians in the diaspora to sit for the UTME without travelling to Nigeria solely for the examination,” the board said.

The examination body said the initiative would also create greater opportunities to showcase Nigerian tertiary education internationally and reduce barriers faced by Nigerians abroad seeking admission into Nigerian universities and other tertiary institutions.

“For Nigerians in Canada, the UTME is coming closer to home,” JAMB said.

The board added that it was working towards establishing the Ottawa examination centre, which is expected to commence operations in 2027.

JAMB described the planned centre as an important step towards providing greater access to Nigerians across North America who wish to pursue tertiary education in Nigeria.
