The Vice Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Mrs Grace Ogunleye, has been abducted by suspected gunmen along the Ipere–Iludun Ekiti road.

Sources said Ogunleye was kidnapped on Wednesday while returning from an official engagement in the state.

It was gathered that her vehicle was later discovered abandoned by the roadside shortly after the incident, while her whereabouts remained unknown as of the time of filing this report.

Attempts to reach the council vice chairman through her mobile phone were unsuccessful, as the line was reportedly switched off.

Sources further disclosed that Ogunleye had earlier visited the Ilejemeje Local Government Secretariat before heading towards Ido Ekiti when the attack occurred.

Confirming the incident on Thursday, the Director of Information and Civic Orientation for Ilejemeje Local Government, Falade Sunday, said security agencies had been alerted and efforts were ongoing to secure her release.

He assured residents that relevant authorities had intensified efforts to rescue the abducted council official and apprehend those behind the incident.

Also confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Ekiti State Police Command, Sunday Abutu, said details surrounding the incident would be made available later.

The abduction has heightened concerns over rising insecurity in parts of the state, with residents calling for strengthened security measures to curb the growing wave of kidnappings.
