Nigerian social media personality, Bobrisky, has criticised the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), accusing the agency of focusing on minor currency-related offences while failing to address more serious crimes across the country.
In a viral interview shared by Naija News TV, Bobrisky expressed frustration over what she described as selective enforcement of the law, arguing that authorities should prioritise tackling issues such as banditry, corruption, and other violent crimes rather than concentrating on individuals accused of “naira spraying” at social events.
The comments come amid ongoing public debate over the EFCC’s enforcement of laws relating to currency abuse, particularly the spraying of naira notes during parties and celebrations.
The practice, while culturally widespread, is prohibited under Nigerian financial regulations and has led to several arrests and prosecutions in recent years.
Authorities have maintained that the enforcement is part of efforts to protect the integrity of the national currency, while critics argue that the agency’s focus on high-profile entertainers and influencers reflects uneven application of justice.
