INEC Sets February 20, 2027, for Presidential Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission has officially declared that Nigeria’s Presidential and National Assembly elections will be held on February 20, 2027.

Additionally, the commission has scheduled the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections for March 6, 2027. INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan revealed this timeline during a press conference in Abuja on Friday.

This announcement comes amid worries regarding the delay in the passage of the amended Electoral Act currently under consideration by the National Assembly. INEC had previously indicated on February 4 that it had finalized its election schedule but cautioned that some activities might be adjusted based on the timing of the amended law’s passage.

The commission affirmed its commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections throughout the nation, with more details expected as preparations intensify.
