Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has assured Nigerians that the commission is determined to deliver what he described as “the best elections in Nigeria’s history” for 2027, saying past technical issues will not recur. Amupitan spoke on Sunday, 1 March 2026, at a Citizens’ Townhall meeting in Abuja, organised to discuss the recently signed Electoral Act 2026 and the roadmap for the next general elections.
Addressing widespread concerns about the electronic transmission of results, the INEC chair acknowledged that technical and network challenges were experienced in the 2023 general election process, particularly with uploading results to the Independent National Electoral Commission Result Viewing Portal (IReV). He emphasised that thorough stress‑testing of equipment and logistics improvements have been implemented to prevent similar setbacks.
Amupitan stressed that while perfect “real‑time” uploads may still face limitations in remote areas with weak connectivity, the commission has strengthened its systems and logistics so glitches will not undermine the 2027 polls. He argued that credible, transparent elections are essential for national development and democratic legitimacy, and reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to delivering a seamless electoral process.
