Starnews NG visited the ongoing dualisation of Ijoka Road in Akure, Ondo State, on Monday, to assess the progress of work on the project.
The dualisation, which began under the administration of the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, covers the stretch from the A Division through the High Court to the Ijoka area. The project also includes a separate 16.75-kilometre virgin road linking Idanre directly to the Ijoka axis.

The project was initiated to address the persistent traffic congestion along the route and improve connectivity between Akure and Idanre.
The current administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has continued with the project following the death of Governor Akeredolu.
However, Starnews NG observed limited construction activity during the visit.
No major construction crew was seen working on the road, except for a water tanker spraying water to reduce the dust generated by passing vehicles.
One lane of the road has been asphalted, while work on the other side is yet to reach the tarring stage. A wheel loader was also seen carrying out filling work at a section of the road.
The completed lane, particularly the section on the right-hand side when travelling from the Oluwatuyi axis towards Ijoka, leads directly towards Idanre.
The uncompleted section has left nearby shops and residential buildings affected by heavy dust.
Residents commended the Aiyedatiwa administration for sustaining the project but expressed concern over the slow pace of construction.
They called for the deployment of more equipment and workers to the site to accelerate the project and reduce the hardship being experienced by road users and residents

While the government has maintained work on the road, observations from the visit suggest that construction is progressing at a measured pace, with significant work still required before the dualisation is completed, Starnews NG reports
