In a bold attack, suspected gunmen stormed the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) office in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, late on Tuesday night, stealing firearms from officers on duty.
Reports say that the incident happened at around 10pm at the immigration office located along the Ogbomoso–Ilorin Motorway, near the NNPC filling station.
Witnesses told SaharaReporters that the armed attackers struck while business was still active at the nearby Ayanyan Cattle Market, a busy trading area.
During the attack, the officers at the immigration office were overpowered by the gunmen. The attackers then took the officers’ firearms before fleeing the scene.
At this time, the exact number of weapons taken is not known as details of the incident are still coming in.
As of now, security officials have not confirmed the full details of the attack, including whether there were any injuries or casualties.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said he had not yet received an official update on the incident.
“I have not been briefed on the incident at this time. I will provide updates as soon as I have more information,” the police spokesman said.
As of this report, neither the Nigeria Immigration Service nor other security agencies have issued an official statement about the invasion, the number of firearms taken, or the identities of the attackers.
