Comrade Toba Ajiboye, the Organising Secretary of the Lagos State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), has reportedly died after succumbing to injuries sustained in a gun attack by suspected assailants in Lagos.
Ajiboye was attacked on Sunday night while returning home from his childhood neighbourhood in Fadeyi. According to reports, suspected gunmen intercepted his vehicle along the Ikorodu Road corridor and opened fire, spraying the car with bullets before fleeing the scene.
Images and videos shared on social media in the aftermath of the attack showed his white vehicle extensively damaged, with multiple bullet holes visible on the windscreen and several parts of the bodywork, underscoring the intensity of the shooting.
Early reports suggested that Ajiboye and other occupants of the vehicle survived the attack despite sustaining gunshot wounds and were receiving medical treatment.
However, fresh reports indicate that the NURTW official later died from the injuries he sustained, throwing the union and his associates into mourning.
As of the time of filing this report, the circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear, while security agencies have yet to issue an official statement on the incident or confirm whether any arrests have been made.
The killing has heightened concerns over violent attacks in parts of Lagos, with many calling for a thorough investigation to bring those responsible to justice.
