Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, has issued a strong warning against fake pastors and religious figures accused of exploiting vulnerable people through staged miracles and deceptive preaching.
The governor made the remarks on May 11, 2026, during the All Knights Day celebration at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Awka, where he said several suspected fake pastors had already been arrested and were assisting investigators.
According to Soludo, the Anambra State Government had intensified efforts to rid the state of what he described as fraudulent religious practices that encourage deception and social decay. He stated that genuine faith should promote discipline, hard work, and moral responsibility rather than manipulation of desperate citizens.
The governor also defended recent actions taken against roadside preaching and noise pollution in public spaces, insisting that markets and busy streets should not be turned into centres for disruptive religious activities.
A viral video of the speech has since generated widespread reactions on social media, with supporters praising the crackdown while critics raised concerns about religious freedom and government interference in spiritual matters.
