Former Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jumoke Akindele, has praised the Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, after its operatives apprehended suspected burglars and recovered seven stolen mobile phones following coordinated burglary incidents in Okitipupa.
Akindele disclosed that burglars broke into her country home in the early hours of Sunday, making away with five expensive mobile phones, a bottle of perfume and other valuables while seven occupants slept through the operation.
According to her, none of the seven people in the house woke up during the burglary, a situation she described as both astonishing and a reflection of God’s protection.
“There was a burglary incident right inside my country home in the middle of the night into Sunday morning. I find it altogether curious that of the seven of us who slept under that roof, none of us even made a stir while the operation was ongoing,” she said.
The former lawmaker expressed gratitude that no one was harmed during the incident, describing their safety as an act of divine intervention.
She said the burglary was reported to the Okitipupa Police Station, where the Divisional Police Officer assured her that efforts would be made to track down those responsible.
However, before police investigations could make significant progress, Amotekun operatives in Okitipupa reportedly intercepted suspects attempting to transport the stolen phones to Lagos for sale.
Akindele explained that a relative whose home was also burgled on the same night, with two expensive mobile phones stolen, informed her that Amotekun officers had apprehended the suspects in possession of the stolen devices.
The operation led to the recovery of seven mobile phones linked to the two burglary incidents, while investigations remain ongoing with most of the suspects in Amotekun custody.
Commending the security outfit, Akindele described the operatives as brave, dedicated and highly professional in combating crime across Ondo State.
She specifically praised the Commander of the Ondo State Amotekun Corps, Mr. Adetunji Adeleye, for his leadership, as well as Assistant Corps Commandant, Area 3 Okitipupa, ACA Ogundana Adedayo, for leading efforts to combat the growing wave of burglaries in the area. She also acknowledged the contributions of officer Rotimi Akintade and other personnel involved in the operation.
“I am awed by their dexterity, determination, bravery and commitment to duty. They have shown their readiness to go through any storm to quell criminal tendencies within the town,” she said.
The former Speaker urged the Ondo State Government to recognise and reward the officers for their outstanding service, saying their actions had reinforced public confidence in the state’s security architecture.
Akindele further argued that the success of the Amotekun Corps strengthens the case for the establishment of state police in Nigeria, noting that the agency has demonstrated the effectiveness of community-based policing in addressing local security challenges.
She called on residents to continue supporting and appreciating the sacrifices of Amotekun personnel, saying their dedication has contributed significantly to maintaining peace and security across Ondo State.
