A non-student suspected of unlawfully gaining access to the Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, has been arrested after he was allegedly found in possession of a pistol during the institution’s ongoing second semester examinations.
The suspect was apprehended by the university’s Joint Security Team during a routine security operation aimed at protecting students, staff and examination centres across the campus.
Although the identity of the suspect has not been officially disclosed, preliminary reports indicate that he is not a registered student of the institution.
Security personnel reportedly intercepted him after observing suspicious movements within the university premises before discovering the firearm during a search.
The arrest comes amid heightened security measures introduced by the university management to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free examination period.
University authorities have in recent weeks strengthened surveillance across the campus, with security operatives conducting regular patrols and screening individuals entering sensitive areas, particularly examination venues.
The incident has sparked concern among students and staff, many of whom described the swift response of the Joint Security Team as reassuring, noting that it may have prevented a potentially dangerous situation.
Security sources said the suspect is currently in custody and is undergoing interrogation to determine how he gained access to the university, the purpose of carrying the firearm and whether he acted alone or as part of a wider criminal network.
The recovered pistol has reportedly been taken into evidence as investigations continue.
