There is an outpouring of grief in Okitipupa Ondo State and beyond following the passing of former Local Government Chairman, Chief Ayeniyi Olayeye, who died on Friday, April 17, 2026.
Chief Olayeye, a respected grassroots politician and prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was widely regarded as a pillar of leadership and development in Ondo State.
His death marks the end of an era for many who benefitted from his years of dedicated public service.
During his tenure as Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government, Olayeye earned a reputation for integrity, courage, and a strong commitment to improving the lives of his constituents.
His administration was noted for prioritising community welfare, fostering unity, and championing initiatives aimed at uplifting vulnerable groups within the local government.
Political associates and community leaders have described him as a man whose influence extended beyond politics, highlighting his ability to inspire trust and bring people together. According to the people of Ondo, his leadership style embodied true statesmanship, with a focus on sustainable grassroots development.
In a condolence message signed by Bitire Solomon, Director General of the Progressive Southern Forum (PSF), the late Olayeye was praised for his enduring contributions to public service and party development.
“With profound sorrow and a deep sense of loss, we mourn the passing of Chief Ayeniyi Olayeye,” the statement read. “He was not only a distinguished former Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government but also a steadfast pillar within the APC whose commitment to grassroots development left an enduring mark.”
The statement further extended condolences to the deceased’s family, friends, political associates, and the entire Okitipupa community, urging them to take solace in the impactful life he lived.
As tributes continue to pour in, many remember Chief Olayeye as a leader whose legacy will endure through the lives he touched and the community he helped shape.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in the coming days.
