A former housekeeper of American singer Chris Brown has secured a fresh legal victory after a Los Angeles judge ruled that she can seek to recover part of the singer’s tour and royalty income to satisfy a $13 million judgment against him.
The ruling stems from a lawsuit filed by Maria Avila over a dog attack at Brown’s Los Angeles home in 2020.
Court documents obtained by TMZ indicate that the judge handling Avila’s case approved her request to assign money Brown receives from royalties and tour-related earnings toward the outstanding judgment.
Brown opposed the request, but the judge ruled in Avila’s favour.
It remains unclear whether Brown will seek reconsideration of the decision or appeal the ruling.
The legal dispute dates back to an alleged dog attack at Brown’s Los Angeles residence in 2020.
Avila later sued the singer, seeking compensation for injuries she said she sustained during the incident.
Brown denied wrongdoing and disputed the allegations. However, a jury ultimately found him liable, resulting in an eight-figure judgment in Avila’s favour.
The latest ruling provides Avila with a potential avenue to enforce the judgment by targeting income Brown receives from his music career.
The decision could allow part of the money Brown earns from his ongoing tour with Usher to be redirected toward satisfying the judgment.
Because the ruling covers royalties and tour income, Avila could potentially collect from revenue generated by Brown while he continues performing.
The development adds another financial dimension to the legal battle as Brown continues his high-profile music career and touring activities.
It remains unclear whether Brown will seek to challenge the latest ruling.
His objection to Avila’s request was unsuccessful, leaving him with the option of seeking reconsideration or appealing the decision.
For Avila, the ruling represents an important step toward enforcing the $13 million judgment linked to the 2020 dog attack case.
The case could now have a direct impact on Brown’s earnings as he continues his music career and performances.
