Engr. Idris Muhammad Idris, a respected public servant and former Chairman of Keffi Local Government as well as a two‑term Commissioner in Nasarawa State, has died after a prolonged illness, family and political sources confirmed on Tuesday, March 17, 2026. The announcement came from Keffi, where Idris spent his final days surrounded by loved ones.
A seasoned engineer and administrator, Idris was widely admired for his integrity, commitment to community development, and service to the people of Keffi and Nasarawa State at large. He first came into public prominence as the Chairman of Keffi Local Government, where his leadership was credited with improving local infrastructure, governance transparency, and grassroots mobilisation.
He was later appointed as a Commissioner in the Nasarawa State Government, serving two consecutive terms in key portfolios. Throughout his tenure, colleagues and constituents praised him for driving developmental programmes, enhancing public service efficiency, and mentoring young professionals.
Political leaders, traditional rulers and residents of Keffi took to social media to mourn his passing, describing Idris as a visionary leader, dedicated administrator, and humble servant of the people. A statement from the Nasarawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) extended condolences to the bereaved family, praying for strength and comfort during this difficult period.
Idris’s funeral arrangements and burial rites are expected to follow Islamic traditions, with details to be communicated by the family in the coming days.
