A section of the Justrite Superstore in the Egbeda-Akowonjo area of Lagos State was gutted by fire on Thursday morning, destroying the store’s electronics section before emergency responders brought the situation under control.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) confirmed that the incident occurred at the supermarket located on Akowonjo Road near Jimoh Bus Stop.
The agency’s Controller General, Margaret Adeseye, said the emergency distress call was received at about 8:15 a.m., while firefighters from the Abesan and Agege Fire Stations arrived at the scene within minutes to tackle the blaze.
According to her, emergency crews immediately launched coordinated firefighting operations, successfully containing the fire and preventing it from spreading to other parts of the commercial building.
“The fire was swiftly contained through coordinated efforts by our personnel, ensuring the safety of lives, property and the surrounding environment,” Adeseye said.
She confirmed that no lives were lost and no injuries were recorded in the incident, adding that recovery and mop-up operations were ongoing after the fire was extinguished.
Adeseye disclosed that preliminary investigations suggest the blaze may have been triggered by an alternative power source, particularly the building’s solar inverter system.
She noted, however, that a full investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the fire.
