The Federal Government is set to unveil a $1 billion Renewed Hope Social Protection Programme designed to strengthen social protection, reduce poverty and expand economic opportunities for millions of vulnerable Nigerians.
The programme is scheduled for unveiling on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, as part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, led by Minister Dr Bernard Doro, said the initiative will strengthen Nigeria’s social protection architecture while placing poor and vulnerable households at the centre of government interventions.
First Lady Oluremi Tinubu is expected to formally unveil the programme at an event that will bring together stakeholders in humanitarian response, poverty reduction and economic empowerment.
According to the ministry, the new framework will introduce a more integrated, household-centred and results-driven approach to social protection, with greater emphasis on translating government interventions into sustainable improvements in beneficiaries’ livelihoods.
A major component of the initiative is the One Humanitarian One Poverty Response System (OHOPRS), an integrated national framework designed to link humanitarian response, social protection, poverty reduction, economic inclusion and graduation around the household.
The ministry described OHOPRS’ strategic proposition as “One System, From Vulnerability to Prosperity,” with the framework expected to improve coordination, programme delivery and measurement of outcomes.
As part of the programme, the Federal Government will also launch an Emergency Cash Transfer initiative targeting 7.6 million vulnerable households facing socioeconomic vulnerabilities and shocks.
The cash transfer initiative is expected to provide timely financial assistance to vulnerable families while complementing broader efforts to strengthen household resilience and create pathways out of poverty.
The event will also feature the launch of Humanity First Magazine, a communication and knowledge platform expected to showcase government interventions, partnerships, innovations, results and human-impact stories from Nigeria’s humanitarian and poverty-reduction sector.
The ministry said the programme would also strengthen collaboration between the Office of the First Lady and the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, with the goal of ensuring that vulnerable households are protected, empowered and progressively linked to opportunities for improved livelihoods.
The government described the $1 billion programme as a major step towards building a more coordinated, responsive and results-oriented social protection system that puts vulnerable Nigerians at the heart of national development efforts.
