Popular Nigerian dancer and socialite, Iweh Odinaka, popularly known as Poco Lee, is reportedly being held on remand in the United Kingdom and is due to appear before a London court in September over an alleged assault offence.
The development was confirmed by Benjamin Kuti, popularly known as the Oluomo of Derby and founder of the community of Nigerians in the United Kingdom, in a conversation with our correspondent on Monday.
According to Kuti, Poco Lee is currently in a UK prison and is scheduled to appear before Snaresbrook Crown Court on September 15, 2026, at 10am.
Kuti said he became aware of the case through his regular attendance at court proceedings and his involvement in supporting Nigerians facing legal issues in the UK.
“I can confirm that the reports are true. Poco Lee is currently on remand in a UK prison. His next court date is scheduled for the second week of September, when he is expected to have a plea hearing,” he said.
A plea hearing typically gives an accused person the opportunity to indicate whether they intend to plead guilty or not guilty to the charge.
Kuti said he planned to attend the proceedings to offer support to Poco Lee and ensure that he receives appropriate assistance throughout the legal process.
“I will also be attending the court proceedings as part of my support for the Nigerian community in the UK, to ensure that our fellow Nigerian receives the appropriate support during this difficult period of his life.
“It is important that we allow the legal process to take its course. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law,” he said.
Reports about Poco Lee’s alleged detention in the UK began circulating online on August 19.
However, the initial reports did not identify the alleged complainant or provide details about the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence. It was also unclear at the time whether formal charges had been filed, as there was no immediate independent confirmation from the UK police or the court.
An email sent to Snaresbrook Crown Court seeking confirmation of the reported proceedings had not been answered as of the time of filing this report.
Poco Lee has not publicly commented on the allegations.
