The Federal Government has unveiled FreeTV, a new national digital television platform designed to give Nigerians free access to more than 100 television channels without any subscription charges.
The platform, which is set to officially go live on June 17, 2026, will provide nationwide access to a broad range of content including news, sports, entertainment, education, and cultural programming across national, regional, and state-owned stations.
According to government officials, the initiative is part of efforts to deepen digital broadcasting in Nigeria, expand access to information, and accelerate the country’s transition to a fully digital television ecosystem.
They explained that FreeTV is designed to remove financial barriers to television access, particularly for low-income households and underserved communities, while also promoting local content production and strengthening the broadcasting industry.
The platform will deliver over 100 channels at no cost, offering viewers a wider variety of programming options and enhancing public access to educational and informational content.
Officials further noted that the project is expected to play a key role in advancing Nigeria’s digital economy by increasing participation in the broadcasting sector and improving media accessibility nationwide.
Details regarding compatible devices, installation requirements, and full channel listings are expected to be announced during the official launch.
