The Federal Ministry of Education has dismissed as false reports circulating on social media alleging that the Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC), Monguno, Borno State, was attacked, assuring parents that students and staff remain safe.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs. Boriowo Folasade, the Ministry described the report as misleading and capable of causing unnecessary panic among parents, guardians and the public.
The Ministry said there was no attack on FGGC, Monguno, stressing that the school remains secure, with all students, staff and boarding facilities safe and fully accounted for. It added that academic and boarding activities are continuing without disruption.
Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, reaffirmed that the safety and welfare of students in all Federal Government Colleges remain a top priority of the Federal Government.
According to the Minister, FGGC, Monguno, operates under robust security arrangements designed to ensure the continuous protection of students, staff and school facilities.
He also clarified that no student of the college was involved in the incident being linked to the school online, explaining that those affected were remedial students outside the institution, while the Borno State Government is already taking steps to ensure their safety and welfare.
The Ministry urged journalists, bloggers, social media users and online platforms to verify information through credible and official sources before publishing or sharing it.
It warned that the spread of unverified information fuels unnecessary fear, undermines public confidence and distracts from ongoing efforts to provide a safe learning environment for students.
The Ministry advised parents and guardians to remain calm, insisting there is no security threat at Federal Government Girls’ College, Monguno, and reaffirmed its commitment to working with security agencies, state authorities and school managements to safeguard all Federal Government Colleges across the country.
