In an effort to address the ongoing food crisis and its impact on Nigerians, the Federal Government has announced plans to sell 50kg bags of rice to public servants at a subsidized rate of N40,000.
The initiative was communicated through a letter from the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs, signed by the Director of Human Resources, Jaiyesimi Abimbola. According to the letter, interested staff members must complete a Google form available on the OHCSF website and submit it to the Director of Human Resources for endorsement.
The payment and distribution process will be overseen by designated officials, with the chairman of the Joint Union Council of the ministry acting as an observer to ensure transparency.
The letter further specified that each staff member is entitled to purchase one bag of rice, although multiple staff members can jointly purchase and share a bag. Departments and units are instructed to inform their staff about the program.
This initiative follows a recent announcement by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Muhammed Idris, who stated that the Federal Government had established centers nationwide where 50kg bags of rice could be purchased for N40,000. This measure is part of broader efforts by the Tinubu administration to alleviate living conditions for Nigerians.
