FG Approves N10bn Housing Loan Scheme for Civil Servants

The Federal Government has approved a ₦10 billion housing loan scheme aimed at making home ownership easier for civil servants across Nigeria.

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, announced the development in Abuja, explaining that the initiative will be implemented through the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria and the Federal Government Staff Housing Loans Board.

She said the scheme is designed to improve workers’ welfare, boost productivity, and give civil servants better financial stability through access to affordable housing.

According to her, owning a home gives workers more confidence and focus, adding that the government sees housing as a key part of civil service reform rather than just welfare support.

Walson-Jack also noted that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is pushing broader reforms aimed at modernising the civil service, including digitisation, transparency, and improved efficiency across ministries and agencies.

She praised inter-agency cooperation in delivering the initiative and urged government bodies to sustain collaboration in implementing policies that improve service delivery nationwide.

The scheme is expected to be part of activities leading up to Workers’ Day celebrations, where civil servants’ contributions to national development will also be highlighted.
