The Federal Government has declared May 1 a public holiday to mark this year’s International Workers’ Day.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani on Wednesday.
In his message, the minister congratulated Nigerian workers and commended their dedication to national development, noting that their contributions remain critical to the country’s growth and stability.
He urged workers to stay committed to their duties, stressing the importance of patriotism, diligence, and productivity in achieving sustainable economic progress.
The government also reaffirmed its commitment to improving workers’ welfare and creating an enabling environment for prosperity.
Citizens were further encouraged to remain peaceful and law-abiding, while using the occasion to reflect on unity, hard work, and collective responsibility in nation-building.
