Family Inaugurates 27-Member Burial Committee for Late Akingboye

The family of the late Otunba Bamidele Akingboye (OBA), the Olowomeye I of Ikaleland and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in the 2024 Ondo State governorship election, has inaugurated a 27-member Burial Planning Committee to coordinate arrangements for his final burial rites.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by Samuel Oluwafemi Akingboye (JJ) on behalf of the family, the burial ceremonies are scheduled to hold in Okitipupa, Ondo State, during the first week of September 2026.

The committee is chaired by Hon. Benedict Olumide Taiwo (BOT), a former PDP House of Representatives aspirant and longtime political associate of the deceased. Chief (Mrs.) Obayan Kudirat, a close friend and political associate of the late statesman, will serve as Co-Chairperson, while Oyeniyi Iwakun, who served as the Personal Assistant and Media Adviser to the late Otunba Akingboye, has been appointed Secretary.

Other members include Hon. Osulowo Tibetan, Prince Wale Ikuesan, Mrs. Funke Pirisola, Barr. Gbenga Akinbuli, Mr. Femi Ikoyi, Wande T. Ajayi, Ambassador Debo Adesina, Hon. Henry Makinde, Hon. Victor Oguntoyinbo, Ayo Williams, Asiwaju Babatunde Ogunsakin, Comrade Olukayode Akinyele, as well as family representatives, traditional stakeholders, friends, and political associates of the deceased.

The committee has been mandated to develop programs and schedules of events, coordinate logistics, prepare a workable budget, mobilize stakeholders, and oversee all activities leading to a befitting burial for the late statesman.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Samuel Oluwafemi Akingboye said the committee reflected the broad spectrum of individuals and groups who identified with his late father while he was alive.

“Otunba Bamidele Akingboye lived a life dedicated to service, leadership, and the advancement of his people. The family believes that those who shared in his vision and journey should play a role in planning a befitting farewell that reflects his enduring legacy,” he said.

He expressed appreciation to friends, associates, political leaders, community stakeholders, and well-wishers for their support since the passing of the former governorship candidate and urged continued cooperation with the committee.

Further details of the burial program are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
