Human rights lawyer Femi Falana, popular musician and activist Folarin Falana (Falz), alongside several civil society organizations, have called on Nigerians to participate in a nationwide protest scheduled for June 12, citing worsening insecurity and economic hardship across the country. The organizers said the demonstration is intended to draw attention to rising kidnappings, violent attacks, unemployment, inflation, and the declining living conditions of ordinary citizens.
According to the coalition, many communities continue to face security challenges while millions of Nigerians struggle with the high cost of living. The groups argued that urgent measures are needed to protect lives and improve the welfare of citizens, stressing that peaceful protest remains a constitutional means of expressing public concerns and demanding accountability from government.
The planned demonstration coincides with Nigeria’s Democracy Day celebration and is expected to take place in major cities across the country.
Organizers have urged participants to conduct themselves peacefully while calling on authorities to respect citizens’ rights to lawful assembly and expression.
The protest is likely to further spotlight ongoing debates surrounding governance, security, and economic reforms under the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Nigerians continue to grapple with significant social and economic challenges.
