The Football Association (FA) on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, imposed hefty fines on English Premier League clubs Chelsea FC and West Ham United FC for their roles in a mass confrontation involving nearly 20 players during the final moments of their Premier League London derby at Stamford Bridge on January 31, 2026.
The melee erupted in added time of the match (won 3‑2 by Chelsea after a dramatic comeback) when West Ham’s Adama Traoré shoved Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella, sparking heated clashes. West Ham defender Jean‑Clair Todibo was shown a straight red card after VAR review for grabbing Chelsea’s João Pedro by the throat amid the chaos.
An independent FA Regulatory Commission found both clubs failed to ensure their players refrained from “improper, provocative or violent” conduct, breaching FA Rule E20.1. Chelsea was fined £325,000 and West Ham £300,000 after both admitted the charges.
The sanctions reflect the FA’s drive to curb on‑pitch aggression and uphold professional conduct standards, sending a clear message that mass confrontations will attract significant penalties under English football governance.
