The Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has found Robert Orya, the former Managing Director of the Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM), guilty of fraud amounting to approximately N2.4 billion.
This was announced in a statement by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on February 5, 2026.
The conviction underscores the ongoing commitment of authorities to hold high-ranking officials accountable for financial misconduct in Nigeria.
According to the EFCC, Orya was prosecuted by Samuel Ugwuegbulam from the commission and was convicted by Justice F.E. Messiri of the FCT High Court in Abuja.
Orya received a sentence of 490 years in prison for each of the 49 charges against him, all related to the fraudulent misappropriation of N2.4 billion during his time as NEXIM’s Managing Director from 2011 to 2016.
