The Umobor Akaeze community in Ivo Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, has petitioned the National Assembly, demanding urgent intervention to ensure enforcement of a Supreme Court land judgment that remains unimplemented.
On Friday, March 13, 2026, leaders of the Umobor Akaeze community said in their petition that despite the apex court’s ruling on a long‑standing land dispute, relevant authorities have failed to enforce the judgment, prolonging tensions and uncertainty over ownership rights. According to the petitioners, this failure has frustrated peace and development in the area, prompting them to seek the National Assembly’s involvement to compel compliance with the court order.
The community’s appeal highlights concerns that state and local officials have not taken decisive action to uphold the Supreme Court’s directive, undermining the rule of law and eroding trust in the judicial process. Residents say the unresolved dispute has hampered access to farmland, disrupted livelihoods, and contributed to periodic clashes among disputing parties.
By urging lawmakers to intervene, the Umobor Akaeze petitioners are seeking legislative pressure to ensure that the judgment is enforced and that peace and stability are restored in the affected locality. The situation underscores broader issues in Nigeria around enforcement of court decisions and protection of communal land rights.
