Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have raided a private warehouse in Sintali Ward, Jalingo Local Government Area of Taraba State, recovering relief materials reportedly donated for disaster victims and arresting four suspects.
The operation was reportedly carried out following intelligence from residents who alleged that relief materials were being moved at night from government storage facilities to a private warehouse.
According to security sources, the recovered food items and other humanitarian supplies, valued at millions of naira, were believed to have been donated by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre to the Taraba State Emergency Management Agency (TSEMA) for distribution to victims of disasters across the state.
Among those arrested were the warehouse owner and three rice traders. The recovered materials were evacuated to the DSS office in Jalingo as investigations continue.
Security operatives are now working to establish whether the relief items were unlawfully diverted from government custody or were temporarily stored at the warehouse for legitimate reasons.
As of the time of filing this report, the Taraba State Emergency Management Agency had not issued any official statement on the incident, while the DSS was yet to comment publicly on the operation.
