The presidential candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Donald Duke, has warned that Nigeria could face a deeper crisis within the next four years if the country’s current political and economic trajectory is not urgently changed.
Duke, a former governor of Cross River State, made the remarks during an interview with ARISE News on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, while discussing Nigeria’s worsening challenges and the need for urgent intervention.
He said his decision to return to politics was driven by concerns over the country’s direction, arguing that Nigeria cannot continue on its present course without serious consequences.
Duke called for fundamental changes in governance, economic management and national security, stressing the need for leadership capable of addressing the country’s structural problems.
He also advocated stronger accountability and reforms to improve security and governance.
The former governor’s comments come ahead of the 2027 general elections, as political parties and opposition groups intensify preparations and debates over Nigeria’s future direction.
Duke warned that failure to change course could deepen the crisis facing the country.
