Resident doctors at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, Ogun State, have begun a 10-day warning strike over unpaid allowances and worsening working conditions.
The doctors say the action became necessary after the state government failed to pay revised professional and specialist allowances, as well as outstanding arrears, despite a prior ultimatum.
In a communiqué issued after their meeting on Tuesday, the Association of Resident Doctors also raised concerns over delayed Medical Residency Training Fund payments, severe manpower shortages, poor security within the hospital, and inadequate accommodation and welfare facilities.
They said the situation has led to excessive workload, burnout, and prolonged working hours across departments.
The association also demanded immediate payment of the 2026 residency training fund and full implementation of revised allowances in the July 2026 salary.
It further called for urgent renovation of call rooms, improved hospital security, better staff accommodation, and improved welfare support, including quality meals for doctors.
The doctors warned that any member who violates the strike directive will be fined ₦50,000.
They added that an emergency general meeting will be held after the 10-day action to decide the next steps if their demands are not met.
