President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has disclosed that the Dangote Petroleum Refinery will consume approximately 2.5 percent of all globally traded crude oil, highlighting the facility’s enormous scale and strategic importance to Nigeria’s industrial development and the global energy market.
Dangote made the remark on Wednesday, July 30, 2026, while receiving the Minister of State for Industry, Senator John Enoh, who led a delegation from the Federal Ministry of Industry on an inspection tour of the 650,000 barrels-per-day refinery, the Dangote Petrochemicals Complex, and Dangote Fertiliser Limited in Lagos.
According to Dangote, the refinery’s daily crude requirement underscores its position as one of the largest single-train refineries in the world. He noted that the project was conceived to end Nigeria’s dependence on imported refined petroleum products, strengthen energy security, conserve foreign exchange and position the country as a major exporter of refined petroleum products to Africa and other international markets.
Dangote also reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s industrialisation agenda through investments in refining, petrochemicals and fertiliser production.
He said the integrated industrial complex is expected to create jobs, boost manufacturing, increase export earnings and contribute significantly to Nigeria’s economic diversification.
Speaking during the visit, Senator John Enoh commended the scale of the investment, describing it as a landmark industrial achievement that reflects Nigeria’s growing capacity for large-scale manufacturing and value addition.
He reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting investments that promote industrial growth, economic competitiveness and sustainable national development.
