Criticising Buhari Is the Easiest Way to Anger Tinubu, Says Shettima

Vice President Kashim Shettima has disclosed that the quickest way to anger President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is to criticise the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing Tinubu as a leader who refuses to shift responsibility to his predecessor despite inheriting significant national challenges.

Shettima made the remark on Wednesday while speaking at the Niger Delta Agricultural Development and Investment Summit 2026 in Abuja.

He said President Tinubu has consistently resisted the temptation to blame the previous administration for Nigeria’s current economic and governance difficulties, insisting instead on taking full responsibility for the decisions of his government.

“For the past three years, the easiest way to anger President Tinubu is to criticise Muhammadu Buhari. No, the buck stops at his desk, and he is ready to take responsibility for whatever comes out of his actions,” Shettima said.

The Vice President also described Tinubu as one of Nigeria’s most courageous leaders, saying the President has demonstrated uncommon political will by implementing difficult economic reforms aimed at repositioning the country’s economy.

He urged Nigerians to support the administration’s efforts, expressing confidence that the reforms would ultimately yield long-term benefits.

Shettima’s remarks have generated widespread reactions across political circles, with supporters viewing them as evidence of Tinubu’s loyalty to Buhari, while critics argue that the current administration should remain focused on addressing Nigeria’s pressing socio-economic challenges.
