A Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin has ordered the remand of the Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Olusegun Adewara, over allegations relating to an alleged attack on Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and conduct said to be capable of causing public disturbance.
Ilorin, Kwara State — Friday, May 22, 2026. The presiding judge, Justice T.S. Umar, ordered that Adewara be remanded at the Oke-Kura Correctional Facility in Ilorin following his arraignment on a two-count charge bordering on defamation and public disturbance. The court subsequently adjourned the matter to a later date for further hearing.
According to reports, the charges stem from alleged statements and actions considered offensive to the state government, which authorities claimed could threaten public peace and order in the state.
The defendant, however, is expected to continue legal proceedings as the case progresses.
The Peoples Democratic Party in Kwara State condemned the remand, describing it as politically motivated and an attempt to silence opposition voices.
The party also accused the state government of using state institutions to intimidate critics and opposition members.
Political observers say the case adds to growing tensions between the ruling party and opposition figures in Kwara State, particularly as political activities intensify ahead of future elections.
